UK consumers 'to spend £2.14bn on Christmas Eve'

UK consumers who are finishing off their Christmas shopping today are expected to spend £2.14 billion on presents and products, according to new research.

Sainsbury's Bank's research also found that up to £380.9 million is estimated to be spent through credit cards alone.

In addition, the study also found that people from the north-east of England are most likely to leave their Christmas shopping until Christmas Eve, with people in Wales also found to be the most organised.

Commenting on the research, Sainsbury's head of cards Donald McLeod said: "It looks like the shops are going to be busy on Christmas Eve as a lot of people intend to do a significant part of their shopping then.

"Our research would indicate that the overall spend in the Christmas Eve rush is going to be considerably up on last year's."

Mr MacLeod recently also stated that credit cards are an ideal way for consumers to do their Christmas shopping, especially if shoppers have the best plastic deals available to them.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18405657-ADNFCR
